Alec Poitevint’s obituary appeared in the April 30, 2004 edition of the Atlanta (GA) Journal-Constitution:

A. Loyd Poitevint, age 85, of Bainbridge, GA, Chairman and former President of Flint River Mills, Inc., died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern) Friday, April 30, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge, GA with burial at Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, GA. Mr. Poitevint was born October 16, 1918 in Decatur County, GA, the son of James Poitevint and Mary Ida Martin Poitevint. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1936 and received a B.S. in Poultry Science from the University of Georgia. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church, the Baracca Sunday School Class, V.F.W. Post 4904, American Legion Post 62, and the University of Georgia President’s Club. He was Chairman of the Board and former President of Flint River Mills, Inc. and former Chairman of the Board of Southeastern Minerals, Inc. He was past president of the Bainbridge Rotary Club and Bainbridge Country Club, and a former member of the Bainbridge Jaycees. He served on the Board of Directors of First Port City Bank, the Georgia Agri Business Council, the Georgia Poultry Federation, and the American Feed Industry Association, where he served on the executive committee of the Nutrition Council. He was a very strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Poitevint was preceded in death by a brother, Ottis L. Poitevint. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lynn Poitevint of Bainbridge, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Alec and Doreen Poitevint of Bainbridge, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn P. and George Lee of Tifton, GA; a brother, Coy H. Poitevint of Dothan, AL; a sister, Kennette Dupree of LaGrange, GA; and four granddaughters: Catherine Lynn Poitevint of Washington, DC; Margaret A. Poitevint of Athens, GA; Mary Beth Lee and Melissa Lee, both of Tifton, GA. Officiating Ministers, Rev. Danny Shepard and Dr. Leroy C. Spinks.
