Red Bechtel’s obituary appeared in the December 11, 1990 edition of The Oregonian:

A funeral for Albert Theodore ”Red” Bechtel of Southeast Portland, an employee of Superior Electric Motor Co., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery.

He died of heart disease Saturday in his home. Mr. Bechtel was 67.

Born July 17, 1923, in Kittanning, Pa., he had lived in the Portland area for many years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II and in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He married Evelyn L. Sederdale on March 6, 1948, in Vancouver, Wash.

Mr. Bechtel worked for General Electric Co. for 21 years until his retirement in 1979. At the time of his death, he had been employed by Superior Electric Motor Co. for the past 11 years.

Survivors besides his wife include his sons, James L. of Gresham, Michael E. of Portland and Robert T. of Denver; daughters, Marilyn Smario and Julie D. Markiewicz of Portland; brothers, Raymond and John of Warren, Ohio; sisters, Mamie Sigler of Courtland, Ohio, and Ellen Hurst of Florida; and 12 grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
